Choosing a substance abuse treatment program is a big decision – and one that is understandably characterized by a lot of questions. From information about the background and expertise of key staff, to details about the range and nature of treatment programs, to specifics about facility size and cost of care, you should be well informed when selecting the program that is right for you or your loved one. These common questions and answers will help you make a decision you can feel good about.
Credentials and licenses ensure that the person providing services meets nationally recognized standards for professional practice. Some of the credentials often held by addiction professionals include, but are not limited to, LCSW, LPC, CSAC, CADC, or CAADC.
BTG’s clinical staff is comprised of highly-trained professionals committed to providing exceptional client care. The majority of our clinical team are licensed clinical social workers (LCSW) and certified alcohol and drug abuse counselors (CAADC) and certified substance abuse counselors (CSAC).
Because addiction is a complex disorder and each client is different, treating addiction requires a wide variety of clinical modalities.
At BTG, we provide treatment for substance use disorders by integrating traditional modalities of psycho-social-spiritual treatment with complementary approaches oriented towards physiological healing and wellbeing. Using the most progressive modalities available, coupled with traditional “12 step” approaches, we help our clients recover their physical health as well as provide them with the psychological and spiritual tools they need for a life free from drugs and alcohol. We offer integrative treatment modalities including psycho-education, individual and group counseling, family counseling, intravenous therapy, oral nutrients, nutrition, acupuncture detoxification, fitness, massage, neurofeedback, meditation, yoga, and Reiki. We combine treatment approaches that incorporate healing of the whole person – mind, body, and spirit.
No person entering recovery is the same as the next, and all clients deserve to have that fact recognized. Each client’s needs are unique and a person-centered approach allows variances in substance use history, psychological and environmental issues, family relationships, histories of trauma, and unique barriers to recovery to be taken into account.
At admission, BTG includes assessment and individualized treatment planning, orientation to the facility and program, and comprehensive treatment services. Throughout the course of treatment, BTG continues to individually tailor each client’s treatment plan to their specific needs.
Treating patients in an integrative manner will lead to greater success while in treatment and, ultimately, in long-term recovery.
BTG believes in treating “the whole person” and underlying factors influencing their addiction therefore employs a skilled, interdisciplinary team consisting of substance abuse counselors, physicians, contracted psychologists, registered nurses, neurofeedback technicians, Reiki masters, acupuncture detoxification specialists, and massage therapists.
The recovery process impacts, and should involve, not only individuals in treatment but their families as well. Research now that clearly indicates that treatment of clients in isolation from their loved ones significantly impacts an individual’s chances of maintaining long-term sobriety.
Because addiction has significant implications for those close to the person in recovery, we offer a separate, comprehensive program for friends and family members of our clients. Participants in our family program are equipped with information and tools to better understand their loved one and the disease of addiction, develop positive coping strategies to help their loved one and themselves, and strategies that help the whole family to work together as a cohesive unit characterized by trust, accountability, and healthy support. Our program serves family members throughout a loved ones’ time in treatment and regular communication with our clinical team allows family members to understand and track a loved ones’ progress towards key treatment and relapse prevention goals.
Treatment can be an important and needed step in a person’s life. It is also typically a significant expense. Navigating the complexities of insurance and other payment options can often be confusing and frustrating. Finding a facility that works hard to keep people in treatment and help clients and family members through their benefits and payment options is critical.
Our years of experience and sound working relationships with major insurers allow BTG to secure excellent insurance reimbursement rates as an out-of-network provider. We advocate for you to secure the most advantageous rates to help you take advantage of our high-quality programs. And if you don’t have coverage, we are highly flexible – working with you to ensure you get care through a self-pay program. Our expert staff navigates the process to find solutions and eliminate barriers, providing regular communications every step of the way to make things easy.
Being able to continually assess and support clients’ physical health and emotional and psychological well-being is an important component of providing safe and comprehensive substance abuse treatment. Clients should be regularly evaluated by a physician during treatment and have both pre-existing and emerging health care needs met.
BTG’s medical staff consists of physician who is board certified in addictions and integrated medicine, as well as two registered nurses with more than 30 years of experience each, to address our clients’ full range of health care needs.
It is important to maintain a low client-to-counselor ratio to ensure each client receives individualized attention and care required to effectively address their addiction.
BTG is relatively small treatment facility licensed to treat up to 24 clients at a time. Our size enables us to give our clients the personal attention and individualized treatment that they deserve. At capacity, each substance abuse counselor has a maximum case load between 6 and 8 clients. BTG strives to maintain a caseload of 4 clients per substance abuse counselor.
Research shows that men and women have different needs in the recovery process and have increased chances for success when given opportunities to be separated by gender.
BTG strives to offer the most therapeutic approach in each clinical environment. Therefore, clinical staff assesses the appropriateness and value of gender-specific groups and mixed gender groups throughout the clinical day.
An environment where clients can feel safe and protected and which reflects respect and dignity will ensure clients are able to get the most out of the treatment process. It is important for clients to feel dignified and comfortable, rather than institutionalized, when participating in addictions treatment.
BTG strives to ensure each residence is a homelike, clean, and comfortable place to stay for our clients while in treatment. BTG’s treatment facility and 3 residential houses are all located in historic Winchester, Virginia- a vibrant, safe and beautiful small removed from the stressors of big city life, yet boasting conveniences typically found in much larger metropolitan areas. Just a few hours driving distance from major Mid-Atlantic cities, the Winchester area is an outdoor and nature enthusiast’s dream and our clients enjoy top-notch hiking and wilderness experiences on retreats and weekend outings. Home to a long-standing and large community of recovery, our location also allows clients to gain a strong foothold in 12 step programs and networks.
Treatment in isolation is not enough to sustain recovery for most patients. A tapered approach to treatment that allows clients to step down in care, assume greater responsibility for their own sobriety is critical to help the client continue to make healthy and safe steps forward.
BTG provides several outpatient options that allow those at our highest level of care to gradually become more independent and autonomous in their recovery. And our inpatient program consists of a phase-based structure that culminates in extended sober living arrangement that many clients take advantage of as a way to transition slowly back into the demands of day to day life. In addition, we offer and recommend a continuing care program – which many clients participate in for up to a year following discharge from their primary program – to provide a platform for ongoing accountability and group support in the early stages of recovery.
