I came across a post this morning from Brain Chat with the above quote. My first thoughts were, “thank God for neuroplasticity” and “I still can’t believe it’s real.” Then, of course, I reflected on my life and the way my brain worked throughout the many years I spent in active addiction.
It certainly isn’t breaking news that we are in the midst of a lot of change and uncertainty with the ongoing pandemic. The ripple effects of COVID-19 have rocked the substance abuse treatment industry which has led to devastating consequences. We were already facing the opioid epidemic and an increased need for substance abuse treatment programs when the Coronavirus hit last spring.
It’s easy to say that you are ready to change, and so tempting to make your quit date tomorrow. Even better is to push your quit date until after the weekend – after the bender. You tell yourself you will use this one last time. And since it’s going to be the last time, then you should really get the most out of it. You promise yourself that this is it – the last time.
