Our residential level of care is the starting point of our continuum of care, providing clients with a safe and supportive space to begin living substance-free. With 24/7 monitoring, compassionate support, and distance from past triggers, clients can focus fully on healing and building healthy routines. The residential program promotes strong bonds with clinicians, a commitment to wellness, and personal growth, all within a nurturing environment designed for reflection and renewal.
Our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) provides a structured transition from residential to outpatient care, helping clients maintain continuity as they progress. This day program offers intensive, evidence-based therapy from 8:45 am to 5:00 pm, five days a week, allowing clients to live independently at home or in a sober living environment. With both individual and group therapy, PHP supports clients in building recovery skills in real-life settings without an overnight stay.
Intensive Outpatient (IOP) treatment provides clients the opportunity to apply insights gained at higher care levels while practicing greater autonomy. Running five mornings a week, our IOP offers structure and support as individuals reintegrate into daily life. This schedule allows clients to balance treatment with personal responsibilities, making it ideal for those in early recovery. By fostering both independence and community support, IOP helps clients build resilience and sustain their recovery journey.
Our outpatient addiction treatment program provides support for individuals who have engaged in the continuum of care at Bridging the Gaps or another facility. This program offers accountability, support, and structure for maintaining long-term sobriety. As the lowest level of care offered, it serves as a vital support system for clients transitioning out of our recovery residences. Through ongoing therapy and group sessions, clients can reinforce their recovery skills while navigating everyday challenges.
Recovery From Addiction
Comprehensive support for substance use and co-occurring disorders
Our treatment plans blend a mix of therapeutic approaches, from cognitive-behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies to 12-step programs. We enrich treatment with holistic practices such as yoga, meditation, and art therapy, providing a well-rounded path to recovery from addiction.
Abstinence from substances and addressing neurochemical deficiencies is a cornerstone of our philosophy, but that alone is not enough to build a meaningful life in recovery. The design of our program – from the time a client wakes in the morning until they go to sleep at night – is deliberately structured to provide the environment for transformation to occur. We teach our clients the skills to build a life in recovery while simultaneously working with them to therapeutically address the pain points that will keep them caught in the cycle of addiction.
We are a small facility with 24 beds, which fosters a comfortable and trusting environment where clients can build strong connections with staff and peers. This intimate setting promotes openness and honesty, enabling clients to address challenging issues with the knowledge that they are supported every step of the way.
Our residences in Winchester, Virginia offer a well-appointed, safe, and comfortable environment where clients can enjoy the comforts of home while focusing on physical, emotional, and spiritual healing. Clients can prepare meals, work on therapeutic assignments, engage in sober activities, and bond with peers. Our homes feature spacious kitchens, dining and living rooms, multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, porches for relaxing, in-home laundry, and structured access to telephone, television, and internet.

A Unique Blend of Healing Approaches
Learn how we integrate and blend a powerful mix of therapies and healing practices.
At BTG, the food and nutrition program is centered on supporting the client’s recovery. We focus on developing a healthy relationship with food that will give clients a good foundation to build their health in recovery. This is important because not eating well can lead to not feeling well, which can lead to craving alcohol and/or drugs.
Amino acid supplementation rebalances the clients’ brains, which restores functioning of the brain’s neurotransmitters. By addressing these neurotransmitter deficiencies, clients’ abstinence symptoms, including cravings, mood swings, and withdrawal symptoms, are dramatically reduced. We also help clients find their natural sleep and biorhythms through nutritional and supplementation protocols.
Polyvagal Theory explores how the autonomic nervous system influences emotional regulation, social connection, and stress responses. The theory identifies everyone has three primary states: the safe and connected "ventral vagal" state, the mobilized, fight-or-flight "sympathetic" state, and the immobilized, shutdown "dorsal vagal" state. Trauma can wire our brain for survival versus connection. Understanding these states can help individuals and clinicians address trauma, improve self-regulation and connection, and foster resilience in therapeutic settings.
Our Acupuncture Detoxification Specialists use Chinese acupuncture to relieve many of the clients’ symptoms of withdrawal and abstinence. Acudetox stimulates the body’s natural detox pathways and promotes relaxation. Acupuncture has also been shown to reduce cravings, ease physical pain, decrease anxiety, help regulate emotions, decrease stress, and help regulate sleep.
Meditation helps manage stress, promotes relaxation, reduces anxiety and depression, improves sleep, and improves mental focus. BTG has long used meditation as a centering and healing practice that promotes a feeling of calm and wellbeing, which is very helpful to clients who are recovering from the disease of addiction.
Brainspotting is an evidenced-based, brain-based, psychotherapeutic tool that identifies, targets, processes, and then ultimately releases significant physical and emotional memories. By working through these memories and learning grounding techniques, clients are able to better emotionally regulate, experience less anxiety, and ultimately are less likely to want to self-medicate with drugs and alcohol.
Regular exercise is the best way to increase energy, reduce fatigue, and elevate your mood. Addiction is a brain-based disease therefore BTG utilizes the modalities that are scientifically proven to heal the brain. Studies have shown that exercise results in marked increases in mood-enhancing neurotransmitters.
At Bridging the Gaps we offer art therapy and music therapy, which provide the clients with an opportunity to explore, understand, and resolve core issues in their lives that they may not feel comfortable talking about in regular conversation. Expressive therapy is beneficial to those dealing with addiction because it provides them with ways to understand their addiction, express themselves in a healthy way, and develop healthy coping skills.
