The Path To Recovery

What Is A Clinical Addiction Program?

Addiction treatment begins with a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment, delving into various dimensions of an individual’s substance use disorder, including mental health, familial dynamics, trauma history, and potential obstacles to recovery. This assessment serves as the cornerstone for crafting a personalized treatment plan in collaboration with the client, targeting their specific needs and aspirations.
By customizing treatment plans, clients and clinicians can navigate their journey with clarity, effectively tackling the root causes of addiction, such as underlying emotions and maladaptive coping mechanisms. Our clinical addiction program in Virginia fosters a trusting and transparent therapeutic alliance, empowering clients to confront the triggers of addictive behaviors and enact lasting changes conducive to sobriety.

Restoration of a Life Worth Living

The Benefits of Clinical Addiction Treatment

BTG is dedicated to providing a continuum of addiction treatment services that reflects quality, high standards, professional expertise and skill, and compassion for the individual/family suffering with the disease of chemical dependency. Our program is designed to enhance the client’s ability to:
Acknowledge and Understand the Problem: Initially, most clients will need to focus on understanding and accepting the nature of their addictive illness. Unless a client acknowledges his illness, further efforts toward treatment will be challenged. Understanding the physiological aspects of addictive disease can also help to reduce the shame and stigma that often distract individuals from early recovery efforts.
Identifying Relapse Risks: Identifying individual relapse risks and triggers is a critical early goal. Directing clients toward modifying the “persons, places, and things” responsible for relapse vulnerability is a related early recovery goal. In addition to addressing craving management techniques, an individual will have an enhanced recovery experience by learning coping skills and focusing on alternative lifestyle choices. Efforts should be made to modify life stressors and to teach clients effective stress management and relaxation skills.

Learning New Skills, Trying New Behaviors, Building Resiliency, and Practicing What Works: Practicing alternative behaviors in the presence of these personal vulnerabilities is part of this early recovery process, and providing ongoing feedback to the client about his/her progress is a part of this plan. Sustaining the activities and relationships that provide healthy support is another key goal. Involving family members and other members of the client’s social system is critical to ensuring that clients do not recover in isolation.
Involvement of Identified Family and Healthy Relationships: Families/loved ones often tend to be either “part of the problem” or “part of the solution” in early recovery efforts. We educate the family about the client’s needs and involve the family in relapse prevention or relapse response planning. Although family life may stabilize following a client’s early remission, there may be additional opportunities to work on healing the damaged connections family members may have with the client as a result of their substance-abusing behaviors.
Establish a Long-Term Recovery Plan: Recovery is a long-term and lifelong process, and treatment planning needs to focus on a recovery plan that anticipates future needs and challenges the individual will face following discharge from the program.

The BTG Difference

Roots of Addiction

In order to create a healthy, sustainable recovery from drugs and alcohol, it is important to address the root cause. So our partial hospitalization services includes rebalancing brain chemistry, utilizing comprehensive psychotherapy, implementing proper nutrition, and nourishing one’s spirituality.

Long-Term Care

Our long-term continuum of care allows our clients to progress through our program at a pace that fits the severity of their disease, allowing them adequate time to heal that is unique to their individual situation. Research has shown that clients who stay engaged in treatment for longer have better long-term results once treatment is completed.

Sober Living

Our supportive sober living allows clients to reintegrate into society safely, allowing them to utilize their newly-acquired life skills and coping mechanisms in everyday situations as they continue to benefit from a sober community. Our 3 residences provide the comforts of home with added support and accountability.

Trauma-Informed Care

Treating Trauma Through Targeted Interventions

All our staff are trained in trauma-informed care, a philosophy that shifts focus from "what is wrong with you?" to "what happened to you?" This approach fosters sensitivity to clients' experiences, reducing shame and weaving trauma-informed principles into all aspects of our work. While trauma treatment isn't the primary focus, we acknowledge its role in addiction. For clients ready to address trauma, we offer interventions like brainspotting and narrative therapy in a continuum of care, ensuring safety and support in our sober living house. This deeper work can be profoundly transformative for individuals, integrating past experiences into their life narratives for lasting healing.

Evidence-Based Therapeutic Interventions

Individual Counseling

Each client is assigned a primary counselor at the time of admission who will work closely with the client over the course of their treatment. Clients collaborate with their counselor to develop an individualized treatment plan that serves as a roadmap to achieve the client’s personal goals and objectives. The client receives one-on-one counseling each week to dive deeper into their personal concerns. Clinicians maintain a small caseload (5 clients or less) so each client receives a lot of individual attention and care.

The clinical methods and addiction treatment therapies we use at BTG are evidence-based, and effective, and work together as an integrative whole. Clients can understand and address the underlying core issues associated with their addiction. BTG’s integrated treatment model involves evidenced-based addiction treatment methods.

FAQs

Find answers to commonly asked questions about addiction and recovery.

  • How long is your clinical rehab program?

Our overarching program includes the full continuum of care that we offer starting with Residential treatment and ending with our continuing care Program. Clients that work through all four levels of care in a slow taper from treatment show the best outcomes. Each client’s journey is unique so the following is an estimate of what to expect:

    Residential: 2 – 4 weeks

    PHP: 4 – 6 weeks

    IOP: 6 – 12 weeks

    Continuing Care: 42 weeks

On average, our clients are with us for about 6 months working through different levels of care in that time. We have some clients who have stayed in our outpatient program for many years.

  • Does clinical substance abuse treatment help with co-occurring disorders?

In many cases, addiction is closely connected to other mood disorders or trauma-based life experiences. Our team has extensive experience with co-occurring disorders and employs the latest trauma-informed practices to help clients overcome more significant psychological barriers to recovery. If clients have particularly pronounced psychological issues that override their chemical dependency challenges, we partner with leading mental health professionals and resources in the area. This includes psychologists, psychiatrists, and specialized therapists.
