Why Long-Term Addiction Treatment Works: 2025 Outcomes That Matter
When families begin searching for addiction treatment, one of the most important questions is simple: Does treatment actually work long term?
At Bridging the Gaps, we believe outcomes matter. That’s why we partner with an independent third-party research organization, Vista Research Group, to track real client outcomes after treatment—not just while clients are in our care.
Our 2025 Outcomes Report reflects data collected from clients who participated in treatment at Bridging the Gaps between November 2023 and November 2025. The results reinforce something we’ve believed for years: lasting recovery takes time, structure, support, and treatment that addresses the root causes of addiction—not just the symptoms.
Recovery Requires More Than a 30-Day Stay
Many treatment programs still revolve around short-term stabilization. But addiction recovery is rarely resolved in a few weeks.
At Bridging the Gaps, we offer a comprehensive continuum of care that includes Residential Treatment, PHP, IOP, OP, sober living support, and continuing care because healing happens over time.
Our approach combines evidence-based therapy, trauma-focused care, holistic wellness, family healing, and neurobiological support to help clients build sustainable recovery—not temporary sobriety.
And the data continues to support that model.
Longer Treatment Engagement Led to Better Outcomes
One of the clearest findings in the 2025 Vista Outcomes Report was the connection between treatment length and long-term recovery success.
Among clients who stayed in treatment 22 days or less, only 25% were abstinent one year later.
For clients who remained in treatment more than 40 days, that number more than doubled to 52% abstinent at twelve months.
These findings reinforce an important truth: recovery is not simply about stopping substance use. It’s about rebuilding emotional health, relationships, coping skills, nervous system regulation, and daily life patterns that support long-term wellness.
We Stand Behind Long-Term Recovery
Because we believe so strongly in the value of sustained, structured care, Bridging the Gaps created Continuum Plus Assurance - a commitment that reflects our confidence in our integrated treatment model.
Continuum Plus Assurance is available to private pay clients who complete Bridging the Gaps’ full continuum of care, including:
- Residential Treatment
- Partial Hospitalization (PHP)
- Intensive Outpatient (IOP)
If a private pay client completes the full continuum and experiences a relapse within 90 days of discharge, Bridging the Gaps will cover up to 21 days of clinically appropriate treatment.
This program exists because recovery requires:
- Time
- Continuity
- Accountability
- Ongoing support
Not simply a single episode of care.
Continuum Plus Assurance Includes:
- Integrated 4-Month Continuum Residential + PHP + IOP + Sober Living
- 90-Day Post-Discharge Protection
- Up to 21 Days of Covered Treatment
Very few treatment centers are willing to stand behind their continuum of care in this way. For us, it reflects our belief that long-term recovery deserves long-term support.
Completing Treatment Improved Recovery Outcomes
The report also found that clients who completed their recommended treatment plan experienced significantly stronger outcomes early in recovery.
At one month post-treatment:
- At one month post-treatment, 67% of the patients who successfully completed all recommended treatment reported having been abstinent since discharge.
- Compared to 37% of those who left treatment early
These findings highlight the importance of staying engaged in treatment long enough for meaningful healing and stabilization to occur.
BTG Continues to Perform Above National Vista Norms
Vista Research Group compares outcomes across treatment centers nationwide, and Bridging the Gaps continued to outperform Vista’s national benchmarks at one, six, and twelve months post-treatment.
Vista also notes that their national comparison group already represents high-performing treatment programs because most centers do not invest in independently tracking long-term outcomes.
That means these comparisons are not against average programs—they’re comparisons against other treatment centers committed to accountability and measurable results.
Recovery Means Rebuilding a Life
Sobriety matters, but true recovery goes beyond abstinence alone.
The 2025 outcomes data showed meaningful improvements in emotional well-being, family relationships, stability, and day-to-day functioning.
Clients Reported Significant Emotional Improvement
At intake, only 18% of clients reported feeling “excellent” or “good” emotionally.
One year later, 79% reported feeling excellent or good.
The report also found dramatic reductions in symptoms related to co-occurring mental health challenges throughout treatment and the post-treatment year.
Family Relationships Improved Dramatically
Addiction impacts entire families - not just the individual struggling.
Among clients who completed the twelve-month survey:
- 86% reported having good or excellent relationships with close family members one year after treatment
- Compared to only 25% at the start of treatment
These improvements reflect the importance of trauma-informed therapy, communication work, accountability, and family healing throughout the recovery process.
Stability and Daily Functioning Improved
Recovery also translated into greater real-world stability.
Among clients who completed the twelve-month survey:
- 100% reported living in stable housing one year after treatment, compared to 89% at intake
- Daily functioning challenges dropped from 49% at intake to just 12% before discharge
- 82% were working, attending school, or managing responsibilities at home one year later
These are the kinds of outcomes families hope for when seeking treatment: stability, responsibility, reconnection, and renewed purpose.
Fewer Crisis-Level Medical Interventions
The report also found significant reductions in costly and high-risk medical interventions after treatment.
For example:
- 43% of surveyed clients attended detox at least once in the year before treatment
- Only 4% required detox services in the year after treatment
This suggests that sustained treatment and ongoing support may help reduce the cycle of relapse and repeated crisis care.

The Bridging the Gaps Difference
At Bridging the Gaps, we understand addiction is rarely just about substances. Many clients arrive carrying unresolved trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, shame, disconnection, and nervous system dysregulation.
Our treatment model is designed to address the whole person through:

- Holistic and experiential modalities
- Evidence-based clinical care
- Family support and education
- Neurobiological and nutritional support
- Long-term recovery planning
